Bringing Aid and Comfort to the Homeless November 11, 2020

Always looking for ways to serve the homeless, Sister Ruth Lautt, OP recently started an Outreach Team in her parish, St. Fidelis, in College Point, Queens. The Outreach Team is bringing aid and comfort to the homeless. Sister Ruth said: “We are doing this in collaboration with the Hungry Monk Rescue Truck, going out into the streets of College Point, getting to know our homeless brothers and sisters.”

“Following our Gospel Mandate to give food to the hungry and to welcome the stranger, we offer food, water, ‘blessing bags’ with socks and personal hygiene items, coats, hats, blankets, and referrals for medical care and housing. Most importantly, we begin to build relationships between the faith community of St. Fidelis Church and the homeless in our midst and determine what their needs are. One of the first things we are working on is getting cataract surgery for one of our visually impaired guests.”
