Job Title: LICENSED NURSE (L.P.N.)
Responsible to: Nursing Manager, Director of Carlin Hall, and the Charge Nurse
Salary $26.00 per hour. Daytime part-time and/or per diem.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an approved School of Registered Nursing or of Practical Nursing is required. Currently New York State Licensed.
Experience: A minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience preferred.
Knowledge:
▪ Concept of nursing which embraces complete care of patients physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.
▪ General knowledge of nursing which constitutes the supportive, therapeutic, and restorative principles to be used in the basic care of patients with medical and/or surgical problems.
▪ Interest in learning new methods, procedures, and skills through self-development and opportunities provided through in-service education programs.
▪ Ability to assist with in-service training of paraprofessional personnel.
▪ Skill in performing basic procedures and treatments delegated to practical nurse functions.
▪ Competency in medication administration, dosage calculation, record keeping, verbal and written reporting, carrying out doctor’s orders, etc.

Position Summary:
The Nurse is a trained and licensed nurse who performs nursing staff functions under the supervision of the Director of Carlin Hall and the Nursing Manager. They are qualified to provide basic patient care within their level of competence and experience. They may assume responsibility for the director and/or indirect nursing care of patients under the supervision of the Director of Carlin Hall and/or Nursing Manager and in accordance with the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the Nursing Service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
▪ Is aware of the total nursing needs of the patients.
▪ Assist in the preparation and supervision of the nursing care plan for each patient.
▪ Evaluates and provides for the physical, emotional, and spiritual comfort and safety of the Sisters.
▪ Observes, records, and reports to the appropriate person; general physical and mental condition of the Sisters; signs and symptoms which may be indicative of a change.
▪ Prepares and cares for patients receiving specialized treatments.
▪ Performs special nursing techniques in caring for patients.
▪ Applies scientific principles in performing nursing procedures and techniques.
▪ Assists in patient teaching and rehabilitation in accordance with the total plan of care.
▪ Instructs, directs and supervises nursing aide personnel for whom they are responsible.
▪ Makes written report on Nurse’s Notes of any changes in a patient’s general condition; notifies the Charge Nurse and/or the Nursing Director of such changes.
▪ May administer medications and treatments prescribed for the patient in accordance with the physician’s written orders.
▪ May serve as the Charge Nurse.
▪ Establishes and maintains smooth functioning interpersonal relationships with patients, personnel, and visitors.
▪ Contributes to the improvement of patient care and nursing excellence by participating in the evaluation and revision of nursing procedures and techniques.
▪ Participates in staff meetings.
▪ Provides for professional self-improvement by attending in-service education conferences, professional reading, and maintaining membership in the Practical Nurse Association.
▪ Is responsible for their own acts.
▪ Promotes favorable public relations.
▪ Performs other related, reasonable duties as necessary to meet emergency or other situations as required for the best interests of the retired Sisters and the needs of the facility.
▪ Additional responsibilities as required and assigned by the supervisor.
▪ Constant standing and walking
